Orthodontics in Sonoma - Sonoma Dental

For patients with misaligned teeth, orthodontic treatment is more functionally rather than cosmetically driven. Many fail to recognize the far-reaching consequences that poor tooth alignment can have on the oral-systemic relationship. Patients with poor bite have been shown to be at a higher risk of developing sleeping breathing disorders, temporomandibular joint disorders, bruxism, and other health issues.

At Synergy Dental Group, Dr. Kimberly Hubenette takes a comprehensive approach to orthodontics. Through thorough evaluation of the patient’s medical, social, and dental history, our Sonoma dental team is able to determine the most effective, lasting method of correcting misaligned smiles.

With clear orthodontics, patients are provided with a flexible, cosmetically appealing alternative to straighter teeth. Synergy Dental Group is proud to be certified in several clear tray orthodontic services to individualize the right treatment for you. Our clear tray orthodontic services include invisalign, ClearCorrect and generic alternatives. Through these innovative orthodontic systems, patients can undergo extensive bite realignment without compromising the aesthetics of their smile.

Invisalign® & Clear Tray Alternatives

invisalign

Invisalign is a system of clear aligners used by orthodontists to straighten teeth. These removable aligners are made of smooth BPA free plastic. They have proven to be one of the finest ways of treating simple orthodontic conditions since the aligners are invisible. It is easy to maintain oral hygiene with these aligners since a patient can remove them when cleaning teeth. The treatment duration may vary from 18 months to 24 months based on the condition. A series of aligners are custom-made for the patient and each pair should be replaced with another after every 2 weeks.

Clear Braces

Clear Braces at Synergy Dental Group

Our Sonoma dental team is dedicated to providing patients with options when it comes to creating their unique orthodontic treatment plan. Like any other dental treatment, your unique dental needs dictate which type of clear braces you receive and the length of treatment.

When compared to traditional metal braces, clear orthodontics offer a number of benefits for adult as well as teen patients. Some benefits include:

Invisible Treatment: Clear braces use sets of clear aligners which gradually move your teeth into their new position, ensuring that your treatment doesn’t distract. As no brackets or wires are used with clear orthodontics, patients do not have to worry about the irritation to sensitive oral tissues that is typically associated with traditional metal braces.

Minimally Invasive: Unlike other cosmetic treatments such as veneers or crowns, clear braces do not compromise the strength of your teeth to transform a smile. In fact, clear braces can improve a patient’s oral health. As the teeth are gradually moved into the correct bite position, pressure caused by uneven tooth alignment is eased and the teeth become easier to clean. As a result, the removable aligners can prevent secondary health issues such as tooth decay, bruxism, or even temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD).

No Dietary Restrictions: Removable aligning trays do not restrict wearers’ diets. Rather, patients will take out their aligners before they eat their favorite foods. To help minimize food debris in the aligning trays, it is recommended that patients thoroughly brush and floss their teeth before putting their aligners back on.

Patient-Driven Care: Clear orthodontia do not require you to come in every month for adjustment like traditional braces. Rather, your visits are spaced out every 5-6 weeks, during which we check your smile and ensure that the treatment plan is working. During this visit, we make any necessary adjustments and give you the next set of aligning trays to switch out on your own at home. While the final result of clear braces are highly-dependent on patient commitment, many have found that wearing the aligning trays easy to care for and comfortable to wear for the recommended 22 hours per day.

Traditional Metal Braces

traditional metal braces

Metal braces have been widely acknowledged for their ability to cure complex bite problems. As a traditional form of orthodontic treatment they continue to be the most effective and preferred solutions by orthodontists. Metal braces have wires and brackets which are designed to apply pressure on teeth and move them in desired direction. Traditional metal braces are successful in treating cross bites, open bites, crowding and other complex orthodontic conditions. An orthodontist studies the position of teeth and plans a treatment accordingly. Gels are used in the process to fix the brackets over teeth and the wires are then fit in the brackets in tension mode. Patients should visit the dentist periodically to check the progress of treatment and reset the wires in tension mode.
